Abstract

histoire humaine est jalonnée d’épidémies où germes pathogènes coexistent avec les êtres
humains. L’avènement de la vaccination avec l’ère pasteurienne, puis le large usage des anti-
biotiques ont sauvé l’humanité d’épidémies certaines, ravageuses à grande ampleur. Les vastes campagnes de vaccination laissaient raisonnable ment prévoir que certaines infections comme la variole et la poliomyélite seraient définitivement éradiquées, pendant que de nouvelles maladies transmissibles ou «émergentes» ont fait leur apparition (SIDA, SRAS, fièvres hémorragiques, virus West Nile, Covid-19), parfois même sous forme de pandémie. Au même moment, nous assistons au retour de flambées épidémiques de certaines infections jugées maîtrisées, commela poliomyélite, et désignées alors, comme «ré-émergentes».
