Abstract

Nanotechnology has paved the way for many innovations and revolutionized the nanomedicine, especially with the emergence of niosomes and proniosomes, which are promising vesicular delivery systems for various therapeutic applications.
Proniosomes are provesicules intended to be reconstituted into niosomes, composed mainly of non-ionic surfactants and cholesterol, they allow a controlled and targeted release of active ingredients and offer advantages over niosomes, including better physical stability facilitating their transport and storage and less complex preparation methods.
This study aims to review recent advancements regarding the components, preparation and characterization methods, applications of proniosomes, as well as the factors influencing their formulation.
