Etude du profil de glycation et ses caractéristiques chez les diabétiques type 2 en Algérie

Abstract
Objective-The glycation profile of type 2 diabetic patients has been linked to the onset and progression of diabetic complications. Several studies have assessed this concept by estimating the "glycation gap" (G-Gap). Our study aimed to assess the glycation profile in type 2 diabetic patients and to explore the association between the G-Gap and demographic, anthropometric, and clinical characteristics.
Materials & Methods-We conducted an analytical cross-section study that included 170 uncomplicated type 2 diabetic patients recruited during specialized endocri-nology consultations. The measurement of HbA1c in whole blood and plasma fruc-tosamine was used to calculate the G-Gap. IBM® SPSS Statistics 20.0 was used for statistical analysis.
Results-The majority of the population in the study had a medium G-Gap (72%), compared to 15% with high G-Gap and 13% with low G-Gap. The comparative analy-sis of the three glycation groups revealed that age, sex, and physical activity had no
significant relationship with the glycation profile (p=0.153, p=0.574, and p=0.322,respectively). Post hoc analysis showed that high glycators had a significantly larger waist circumference than low and average glycators (p < 10?³). Diabetic patients
who had been diagnosed for over seven years and those on insulin therapy exhibited a significantly higher G-Gap (p=0.046 and p=0.039, respectively).
Conclusion-The study has identified, for the first time, the glycation profiles of T2D patients and their characteristics. Type 2 diabetic patients with high glycation levels are characterized by abdominal obesity, regardless of age and sex.
